About Us
Who We Are
Hiro Mifune – Nurse Practictioner / Founder
RESPOND Care is a Nurse Practitioner-led clinical consultancy specialising in dementia, behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD), cognitive impairment, and geriatric medicine. Founded and directed by Hiro, an endorsed Nurse Practitioner with deep expertise in dementia and delirium, RESPOND Care delivers comprehensive behavioural assessments, individualised care planning, and staff capacity building through structured education.
Hiro brings extensive clinical experience across acute hospitals, aged care, and community settings, with a career that has progressed from Assistant in Nursing (AIN) and Registered Nurse (RN) roles in aged care to advanced practice and senior consultancy positions. He has served as a Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) in aged care, for the federally funded Special Dementia Care Program (SDCP), and as a Nurse Navigator (NN) supporting people living with dementia in the community.
In acute care, Hiro has held a senior CNC role within the Dementia and Delirium Nursing Service at a tertiary hospital in Brisbane and has gained substantial ward-based experience in acute general medicine. His clinical expertise includes managing individuals with severe BPSD, including those within Brodaty Tiers 5 to 7, both as a primary nurse and a consulting clinician. This breadth of experience enables Hiro to deliver person-centred, evidence-informed support at multiple levels of care—ranging from direct clinical intervention to strategic system-level improvement.
Hiro currently holds a Nurse Practitioner position in General Medicine at a major tertiary hospital, where he continues to provide advanced, person-centred care for older adults with complex cognitive and medical needs.
In addition to his clinical expertise, Hiro has demonstrated strong leadership through collaboration with health executives, multidisciplinary teams, and external providers to drive service innovation and improve care quality across complex systems. RESPOND Care was established from this integrated experience, with a mission to deliver high-impact, nurse-led behavioural support that is clinically sound, timely, and sustainable.
Our goal is to enhance the quality of life for people living with dementia across residential and community settings, strengthen the capability of care teams, and support providers through practical, accountable interventions that drive improved outcomes and workforce confidence.
